Harford County's management of the Mt. Soma property is beyond rational explanation and is beneath contempt.
Fortunate enough to have title to the oldest estate in the area (1720), the County managed to thwart all efforts of the Friends of Mt. Soma who had pledged to preserve their ancestor's home.
Even the former owner who had wanted to develop the property took better care of it, with a live-in guard on the premises at all times, and kept the house in reasonable repair.
The Friends of Mt. Soma had finalized plans to place a new trailer on the grounds with a tenant to watch over it, and the trailer was to arrive just next week.
Last week, however, arsonists burned the interior of the two-story stone house again. And what did the County do?Just a few days later, they quickly and inexplicably seized the opportunity to bulldoze the stone walls that had stood nearly 300 years, thereby destroying vital evidence that might have pointed to the identity of the arsonists.
