MARTIN / DEWYEA Seeking info. on my gr gr grandfather's sister. Elizabeth (Bessie) Martin was born in Canada (Gaspe Quebec?) in 1867, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Martin. They removed to Peaks Island, Maine about 1873. Thomas was a fisherman and was lost at sea in 1875. The mother and children lived in the Willard area of South Portland when they met the Dewyeas (the name was Duguay in Canada). The daughter Elizabeth, married John B. Dewyea at Bremen 25 Dec 1886. He was a lighthouse keeper. In the 1900 census they are living at 142 Federal St in Portland and have two daughters: Aurilla born 1889 and Laura born 1892. John and Elizabeth were divorced 28 Oct 1903. Aurilla is living with her grandmother in the 1910 census, no sign of her mother. Aurilla went on to marry Ira L. Moore and Laura married Charles Irving. Any information on any of these families would be very much appreciated, of course, but I am particularly interested in what happened to Elizabeth after her divorce. Many thanks! Here's hoping!
