I have recieved an old obit of Edward Baker, b. 1/8/1844, Wendell, Franklin CO, MA to Luther and Molly Locke Baker, siblings Olive, George, Rowena, David, Hannah, Andrew, Mary & Nelson (Edwd the youngest). Enl.USN at age 19 (1863?), served in Brownwater Navy in Gulf of Mexico and Missippi River for 15 mo. M. Harriet Morgan of Ledyard, Conn. She died several yrs before him at age 86, after 60 yrs marriage. Lived in Orange and N. Orange, Fkln Co, MA for many years, owned and operated a farm in N. Orange until death, Jan 1936.
He was a member and commander of the Gen. Sedgwick Grand Army Post #17, and his death left 3 remaining members: Walter Hoover, 92, Gilbert Streeter, Andersonville survivior, and Franklin L. Spear, 88, who served as Captain's boy Co H, 8th Reg Infantry during the CW, then in 5th Frontier Cavalry.
I hope this info will be of use to someone, and that maybe it will bring me some follow-up information on this ancestor, whose exact relationship to me I don't yet know. The article and obit were clipped and saved by either my grandmother, Vera Baker Walker or her sister, Amy, so there is surely a close connection between them.
One final note: Edward died in Millers Falls, MA at the home of his nephew, Ozra Baker.
