Gary, I think your ancestor has a serious identity issue. Maybe he was on the lam?!
1850 Rochester, Monroe Co NY REISSEAN Fredk 25 Canada; carpenter/joiner Amelia 23 Canada Eli 3 NY Matilda 1 NY Frederick 4m NY DUPLANTA, Margaret 14 Canada
Eli ROCHON enl CW Rochester NY 12-11-1863 ae 18 ; Co M 14th NY Heavy Artillery; dk hair/eyes, 5'6 1/2 then.... Blase BARNEY enl in Cumberland Co ME; receives pension in MI then... Frederic RECHON 22 m Celestine TUSCANI/TOSCANI 15,7-22-1867 Macomb Co MI Eli/Blase/Frederic all appear to be born abt the same yr, unless Fred. fibbed about age his all his life [b 1850]
The death record of dau, Mary GRIFFIN [Cyrus]names her father...Elias B BARNEY
Father, Frederic, is living with the family 1900.I think it is he in 1880 Shasta Co CA ae 54, carpenter. Didn't find family 1860-70.
I ran across this marriage. ROUCHON/TUSCANI caught my eye. Marquette Co MI 8-13-1900 Mary D ROUCHON b 1876 MI d/o Eli ROUCHON/S. TUSCANI m. Emmet D BARNES b 1874 MI s/o A Lasey BARNES/Lydia BRUNEDGE Celestine was also called Stella, but this is not her dau Mary, as she's still married to Cyrus GRIFFIN/ I didn't find this Mary 1880....maybe you'll have better luck.
Do you have Blase's CW pension file?It might explain many issues.Perhaps his mother died, and he was raised by a BARNEY family.
