Marvin E. Kohtala Marvin E. Kohtala passed away on September 20, 2004, at age 76. Marvin proudly served as a member of the U.S. Army for 21 years. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and was decorated twice with the prestigious bronze star. He loved life and the outdoors. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, DAMIFINO, and the Spanaway Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by his wife Arlene; his three children, Gary, Wendy, and Karen; nine grandchildren, and three great grand children. A memorial service to celebrate Marvin's life will be held on Monday, September 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spanaway. A burial service with full military honors will take place on October 9th in his home town of Chassell, Michigan. GRAHAM, Wash. - Marvin E. Kohtala, 76, a resident of Graham, Wash. and former Copper Country resident, passed away on September 20, 2004.
He was the son of Uno and Laimi Kohtala. Marvin proudly served as a member of the U.S. Army for 21 years. He loved life and the outdoors. He was a member of the Chassell Post 6507 VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Spanaway, Wash. Chapter. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; his three children, Gary, Wendy and Karen; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the Chassell Cemetery with Rev. Jamie Gallagher to officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Copper Country Veteran's Association.
