olson name change to Larson in UP, MI

By genealogy.com user November 06, 2000 at 01:44:45

My gggrandfather immigrated to the upper peninsula in Michigan around 1882 with his brother Frank.Oral family history says that his name was originally Olif Olson but he changed the name to Oliver (Ole) Larson because of teasing with name Ollie Olson. So, he was known as Oliver Larson. He orginally landed at St. Ignace but settled in Delta County (Thompson) or Alger County around 1887 when his wife Julia (Nelson?) and son August joined him.He worked in Lumber camps.

Although came from Norway and served in Norwegian army, it is said he was Swedish and born in Sweden around 1848.

Other children born after arrival in Michigan were: Ole, Edward and Charles.

Also, would love to know what happened to Frank.Did he keep Olson or adopt Larson?

Any clues?? Anyone??
