I have a Barry County Book of all early settlers.I am not related to this family, but I will give you what I've got on this end.
In 1840 William and Hanna England, along with their sons, Morris, charles, Oliver, William, Job, and Fred, left Bath, England for the new world. After arriving in New England they traveled by wagon train to the Orangeville area, where they homesteaded.Their 3rd son, Oliver, married electa cross in 1866.Oliver had always liked to hunt and fish so after farming for 2 yrs near Orangeville, they bought the north end of what is now England's Point on Gun Lake. (I live near this point.)During that time at Orangeville they had a son they named Morris.Later they adopted a daughter, Sarah.a few years after moving to gun Lake they bought the rest of the point, moving into alog cabin already there, and within a year enlarging it to become the "Lake View House", the first england resort on Gun Lake.Oliver and Electa operated the hotel for hunting and fishing guests. There are many fish stories about Oliver. One of the best was about the 40 lb. muskie that towed him around the lake for 5 hrs before it hot away.Oliver's talents as a guide and fisherman were inherited by his son - Morris.morris married Minnie Harding, Nov 29, 1894.In 1907 Oliver passed away.electa continued to operate the resort until shorty before her death in 1940.After a great deal of planning Morris and Minnie opened the "New England Hotel" in 1907, which flourished for many years. In 1917 Morris and Minnie were blessed with a son, robert.the Englands added to their resort by building three rental cottages in 1932.Their son Robert married Allene(Polly) Knowlton in 1937.Joan, the first of their daughters was born in 1938. In 1940 electa died, leaving the Lake View House to Robert. In keeping with tradition Robert and Polly rented rooms. In 1942 connie, their second daughter was born.In 1945 they built 3 cottages and had their 3rd daughter, Judy.During the mid-50's they opened a trailer park and renamed the resort bob and polly's "Hilltop House."they also ran a family style resturant for 4 yrs.The trailer park continued for a decade. The girls all started and finished school at Delton Kellogg School.Joan married Robert vanderWeg of gun lake, and lives east of Hasting.they have 2 daughters: Teresa who married Dale Eaton, who also have 2 daughters, Melaanie and Amanda, and Linda who married tim Campbell, has one daughter, Ashley.connie married Daryl Foreman of Plainwell, and lives at Gun Lake. (I know the Foreman family personally.)They have two sons and one daughter.duff is married to Ann Cavanaugh.they have 2 daughters, Stevie and Jessica, and one son, Daryll Jr.Todd and Heather are the other 2 children of Daryll and Connie.Bob and Polly, after many years at Gun Lake retired to the white cloud area, where they have enjoyed many leisure hours.Bob passed away after a lingering illness in sept of 1984.
