I have been researching the Wertz family for many years and I am finding clues in Berrien Co.It turns out that John G.Wertz b. 1829a long lost brother, of my grt,grt grandfather appears to have been in Berrien Co., Michigan. Also, 2 grandnephews, Milton N & Riley A. Wertz.Seems as though Milton & Riley followed their Great-uncle out to Michigan.I would appreciate any further information on the following people. Below is some information that could serve as a guide.
Questions: Where did Johannes die? What happened to wife, Hannah?More about Emeline & Amelia.Where there anymore children to Johannes & Hannah?
Untilthe Berrien connection was discovered this week, I had no idea what happened to them. They just disappeared. Now I've found them and I learned that Milton & Riley's mother's maiden name was Jury and that she was from Dauphin Co., PA.I wonder if Berrien Co. holds any other Wertz related secrets. I have also been looking for the oldest known direct Wertz relative Johannes Wertz b. 1783.Who knows maybe he also had some ties to Berrien Co.
For Johannes G. Wertz, b. 1829
The 1860 Northumberland Co. Census for Lower Mahanoy Twp., PA lists:
John Wartz Jr.-30 years old -Laborer-Place of birth-PA
Hannah-28 years old
Emeline-7 years old
Amelia-4/12 (4 months)
In 1864, John and Hanna sold 16+ acres to brother Samuel (see deed book 86, p. 274-275).John's family is not found in Northumberland Co.after this time.It is not known what happened to them.It seems that after Johannes died John and his family moved.
The following is found, but I do not know that it is our John G. Wertz.
