Jones, Michigan - is it named for William H. Jones?
I'm descended from a William H. Jones who lived in Cass county Michigan from the late 1830s to the mid to late 1850s.He was an abolitionist and family lore has it that he jumped a party of men from the south taking re-captured slaves back.He freed the slaves and the owners sued him.The suit cost him everything he had while it worked its way to the Supreme Court. The case was thrown out or never heard, and he moved to Kansas.
Anyway, who founded Jones, Michigan and does anyone know of how I can trace the court documents that may exist about this slavery case and my great great grandfather?
Thanks,
Ben Jones
