Thomas,Thanks for your reply.If you try the 1870 census index you mentioned to me and put Cheboygan in, the township slot will ask for an entry. If you scroll down you will will have Burt come up. In 1880 there were two possibles for the William I am looking in Cheboygan. Another is the William in Berrien Co. both in 1870 & 1880, raising fruit. William was one of the two oldest children in the family of David F.Spencer when he moved from NY to Fulton Co., Ohio in 1845. John H. was found recently by his file as a 1st MI. Sharpshooter, Civil War, in Hillsboro, Woodbridge, bur. Camden. My three best William prospects need county atlases, county directories, local histories or bios, maybe some newspaper obits or other. Thanks for trying. Incidentally do you have trouble downloading the MI 1870 census? WS
