Dr. Jim:
I spent about three weeks in and around Seney while writing a Hemingway piece--which (let me brag here) just won the Robert Traver award for flyfishing/ outdoor writing. In the course of researching Hemingway and Seney, I stumbled across Harcourt and Dunn.I'll start copying things tonight, and will e-mail them as attachments, if they aren't too big.(Are you using DSL, Dial-up or Cable?) No charge. But I do want to hear about your grandfather--was this the basis of the Dunn/Harcourt fued?I read somewhere, and will find you a copy, that Dunn had a patron burn down his bar (as opposed to his brothel) in order to collect the insurance money.I'm not sure I believe it, as insurance on bars must have been rather rare in 1884. At any rate the story goes that the patron went to Seney and tried to blackmail Dunn, who then shot him.In the back, I believe. All told, you're much better to have descended from the Harcourts.
