I'm researching various bits of information about the Silas & Orpha Newton family between the years 1850 and 1860, and wonder if someone out there had any info that could shed some light on these issues.
In comparing the 1850 and 1860 US Fed Censuses for this family, I notice several differences:
* The family moved from Kendall, Orleans Co, NY to Lapeer, MI between these years. Family members at the time of the 1850 US Fed Census are: Silas (father, 49 or 53 - info differs), Orpha (mother, 34), Mary (23), Silas (13), Charles (11), Henry (9), Isaac (6), and Chester (3 1/2). A daughter, Francelia was also born in this town, probably very soon after the census was taken (because in 1860 census she is age 10).
* The head of the family, Silas Newton, who was possibly age 49 or 53 in 1850 (censuses vary), and was perhaps born in VT (although this may be incorrect; the handwriting is difficult to decipher), is not listed in the 1860 census. I assume he died, and wonder if someone has some information that might help me determine whether that is the case.
* A daughter, Mary, who was age 23 in 1850) is not listed in the 1860 census. She could have died or married. Does anyone have any information about this?
* A son, Chester, age 3 1/2 in 1850, is not listed in the 1860 census. I'm guessing he died; does anyone have any info about this?
Thank you very much for any help you can give me in regards to these matters. I appreciate any & all efforts to help. Thanks!
