Looking for descendants of this couple. I understand that they had George Washington Woodward, William Henry Woodward, Samuel Henry Woodward and a daughter Efiie Woodward in Michigan ca. mid to late 1800's.
James B. Woodward rec'd land in Lapeer County in Arcadia on Dec 1st 1856. I am pretty sure that his father was a Thomas A. Woodward & Elizabeth _________? who were per the 1850 Fowler Twp., Trumbull County, Ohio Census. Thomas A. Woodward was supposedly born "on the ocean"/"At Sea" and was Blind by the time he left Ohio.
Ok, this Thomas A. Woodward was my ancestor Apollos Woodward born in probably Peacham Caledonia County Vermont ca. 1785 to Jeptha Woodward and an Abenaki woman whose relations (Family Band) were on the Eliakim Hunt Farm ca. 1800. In the 1800 Census in Caledonia County, Vermont Jeptha Woodward had two children very likely Apollos and Hepzibeh Woodward (she marrid John Taylor) BUT Jeptha Woodward did not marry until February 1801 to Persis (nee:Washburn) Rowell. It was her second marriage so I strongly think that it was Jeptha's second marriage as well. The first marriage is at this time "undocumented" because very likely this woman (wife) was Abenaki Indian. Apollos Woodward was married on September 13, 1801 in Deweysburgh Vermont (a township area along Keiser Pond bet. Danville and Peacham, Vermont). He had a son Royal William Woodward May 22, 1803 and another strongly suspected son Parker Preston Woodward in 1803/4. These two boys could have been twins perhaps. They married two Sawyer sisters in ca. 1820's. They lived side by side or together in Walden Vermont. Parker and his family went to Fitch Bay, Stanstead County, Quebec ca. 1840's. Royal W. Woodward and his sons, wife's brother Edward Taylor went to Phillips County, Kansas ca. Oct. 1879.
Apollos went into the Debtors Prison in July 1805 and again in June 26, 1812 had the State of Vermont vs. Apollus Woodward "twice" in Peacham, Vermont. By December 1st, 1812 he was enlisted in the War of 1812 and was discharged March of 1813. Having more children, Ruth Woodward-Berry-Allard-Green, Alpheus Woodward (went out west later in life I think), Charles B. Woodward (married to Ruth's 1st husband's sister Mary Berry), Roxanna Woodwdard (she was deaf and went to Ct. to the deaf school in the 1830's...later she had a child)....Priscilla Woodward (married to Ira Russell and also lived in Walden, Vermont close to Royal & Parker).
By 1815-1816, Apollos went westwardly into New York State from Vermont....with very likely his kith and kin Nathaniel Woodward towards Clay Twp., Onondaga County, NY. I think I found Apollos Woodward under the name Thomas A. Woodward in Solon Twp., Cortland County, NY and by 1827-1828 he married to an Elizabeth ________? who was born in NY. They had a son James B. Woodward in March 1827-8 in NY. By 1850 they were in Fowler Twp., Trumbull County, Ohio. James was 22, his father was 65 and his mother was 64 years old.
James B. Woodward had children in Lapeer County, Michigan in the 1850's. Relocated to Montcalm County, Michigan in the 1860's. James B. Woodward may have died in Richland, Montcalm County, Michigan or Oregon. His widow applied for a pension in either 1902 or 1912. James had a Civil War Pension in 1889 until which time (unk.) he died. Had a grandson Noble Chester Woodward who was in St. Helens Twp, Columbia County, Oregon in the 1920 Census.
I found that some of the descendants of James B. Woodward etc went further west to Oregon (St. Helens, Columbia County, Oregon).
