May/June Flint Genealogical Society Meetings
The Flint Genealogical Society will be meeting 7 p.m., May 1, 2012 at the Burton Senior Citizens Center, 3410 S Grand Traverse, Burton, which is between Bristol Road and Hemphill Road.Ms. Lynn Nichols will be presenting ideas on "Brick Walls - Clues to Breaking Them Down".She has been conducting research on her family's roots for many years across the US to Colonial America, Canada, Sweden and Scotland.Many families have legends or stories handed down over the generations - are they true, untrue or partly true.Breaking down walls will give tools and techniques to solve our genealogy mysteries.Ideas will be given to help find those ancestors who are hidden in the records, where records may not exist, or they are one of the many Andersons in town.Do we have Indian heritage?Are we related to Jesse James?Did GGGrandpa lose the farm gambling? The annual Flint Genealogical Society Banquet will be June 5, 2012, 6 p.m. at the Flint Masonic Temple on South Saginaw Street.Tickets are $15 each and must be purchased before the banquet.Curt B. Witcher, Genealogy Center Manager at the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne, IN, will be the featured speaker.He has worked at the Allen County Library over 30 years and is extremely knowledgable about genealogy.Mr. Witcher's special interests are in US local history, migration history and settlement patterns, African American research, FirstNations/Native American research, and preserving living history.Tickets will be on sale at the May meeting of the Flint Genealogical Society or call Mary Louise at 810-239-0348.
