NOTE: To all those listers, seeking the father of Charles C. OWEN, b. Orange Co., NY, ABT 1807, m. Elizabeth Dorinda CLARK:
The referenced record has listed Charles C. OWEN's father as Asa W. OWEN, married to Lucinda CORWIN. There is a note that Charles accompanied his parents to Oakland Co., MI (from Damascus, Wayne Co., PA) in 1831. *
SOURCE: CD by Genealogy.com, Family Tree Maker's Family Archives, World Family Tree, Vol 12, pre-1600-present.
*Other sources have listed the father of Charles C. OWEN as Asa's brother, William OWEN, b. 22 Feb 1774, Goshen, NY.
The above mentioned Elizabeth Dorinda (CLARK) OWEN was the daughter of Elijah B. CLARK and Mary Ann YERKES.
Elijah B. CLARK, Asa OWEN and Jesse DRAKE bought land together in Brandon, Oakland Co., Mi in 1831, although historical records state that they didn't live there. According to the YERKES family history, Jesse DRAKE became the first licensed tavern owner in Orion Township, MI, and also built the first frame barn in 1830, employing Indian labor.
There was no mention of the unknown father of this Asa OWEN, supposedly killed by Indians before 1800, when Asa was a young boy.
I believe this is the same Asa OWEN, b. 15 Feb 1785, Goshen, Orange Co., NY, who was the brother of William, b. 22 Feb 1774, Sarah, b. 17 Jul 1776, Polly, b. 9 Aug 1779, Phoebe, b. 2 Apr 1781, and Joseph, b. 6 Nov 1783, all born in Goshen, Orange Co., NY.
There are notes in various records that the father of this Asa and William OWEN is unknown. He was supposedly killed by Indians before 1800. However, I have not found anything in writing to support this claim.
Does anyone know who the father of Charles C. OWEN was? Or who the father of Asa OWEN and his brother, WIlliam OWEN, was? Any comments?
