This was initially a response to a post on another forum, so I apologize for the repetition. But, I felt I needed to post this to see if anyone knows anything about this family. Those of you searching for McKinnons in this area probably notice how many of them there are, and the names are all the same!
I have a Florence "Flora" McKinnon b. 9/15/1852 in Cape Breton, NS who married Frederick William Plante on 3/1/1878 in Wingham, Huron, Ontario. She was a sister of my relation John "Jack" McKinnon b. 3/10/1862.She has sisters: Anna "Annie" b. 1856 (m. Joseph A Glass in 1875) and Isabella "Bell" b. 1851 (m. William Kimball, and then Albert Withey in 1886 in Ogemaw, MI).They also had a brother Archie.I also found their parents:John McKinnon and Mary Cameron b.Jan 1820.Mary Cameron was the mother of 14 children, 5 of whom were still alive at the time of her death in 1911.
I am searching tirelessly for futher information on the father of the family, John. The only thing I know for sure is that he was born in Scotland.Because of the birth order of the kids, I am under the impression that the family came originally from Scotland, then to Cape Breton, NS where Flora was born. Then moved to Kincardine, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada where the remaining children were born.John junior(b. 1862), and Bell, along with their mother, Mary, all moved eventually to Ogemaw County, Michigan, where the lived until they died.
Hope this helps! And, if anyone else has ANY info on this family of McKinnons, please email me!!
