Gideon S. DAVIS, aged 65 [?] years died at his residence on Eastmanville street, Tuesday, May 3, 1898, after a long and painful illness of nervous prostation.He bore his suffering patiently and with Christian fortitude.The loss of his faithful companion a little over a year ago, weighed heavily upon his mind, who, it will be remembered, was accidentally killed by a special train January 11, 1897.The funeral was held at the M. E. Church, Thursday afternoon and a large concourse of neighbors and friends gathered there to pay their last tribute of respect to an honored soldier, citizen, and friend.Rev. MIDDLETON of the M. E. Church officiated, assisted by Rev. GARNETT of the W. M. Church.Mr. DAVIS leaves three children, Erwin DAVIS and Mrs. Lennie GILBERT of Fremont, and Mrs. J. STEPHENS of Wright township, and a number of granchildren and many friends to mourn his demise.
