My cousins & I have been looking for the family of my great-great uncle Thomas HONNER, who lived on Columbus Street in Grand Haven, for years with no luck. Thomas was a Great Lakes captain and unfortunately filled in for ill friend Captain Joseph Mulligan of the IRA H. OWEN for one run. It happened to be the day of the great storm of November 28, 1905. The IRA H. OWEN went down off Outer Island (Apostle Islands) in Lake Superior that day.
We cannot find out what happened to his wife and children after that. they seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth! Did his wife remarry & were the children adopted? Were the children farmed out to wife's relatives or adopted by strangers?
Here's what we do know:
Wife: Elizabeth DUFFY, b. Nov 1868, Wisconsin. Adopted daughter: Isabelle (Belle) HONNER, b. Oct. 1887, Wisconsin. Son: Thomas HONNER Jr., b. June 1896, Michigan. Daughter: Doris or Dorris F. HONNER (Birth cert says HONNOR), b. March 1898, Ottawa, Michigan. Unknown child "little Bennie" from article on shipwreck.
Any information anyone may have will be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! Thanks.
