Henry Sams’ 1846 estate settlement shows that he had a son, John, who resided in Ashland County, Ohio. This is almost certainly the John Sames, age 48, who was recordedin Worthington Twp., of Richland Co., in 1850 (page 284) with wife Elizabeth (49) and children Sarah (22), Jeremiah (20), Emeline (18), George (14) and James (10).The Ruggles Twp., Huron County census of 1840 implies that there were at least 2 more older children.
The 1860 Arlington Twp., Van Buren Co., MI census (p79) records Elizabeth Sams 58 with children George 25 and James 22. Daughter Emeline married Elisha Tyler in Van Buren County, Michigan October 9, 1853. Jeremiah wed in the area in September of 1855 and followed his uncle Amos Sams to Kansas. George and James both served in the Civil War.
