I am hoping someone can help me break through my brick wall. I am looking for the names, and birth dates and birth places of the parents of Elisha K.
Brown b. abt 1819 in Tennessee, North Carolina or Missouri, who lived in Madison County for many years. Based on my recollection of family stories, I believe he was Irish, Scottish and/or Dutch.
Here is the information I do have:
Elisha married Sep 1839 Emily Sanford b. 8 Mar 1824.
In the 1850 US Federal Census (McNairy, TN) and 1860 US Federal Census (Madison, TN), Emily and Elisha had the following children:
Sarah Brown b. abt 1843 in Tennessee, USA; Mary Brown b. abt 1844 in Tennessee, USA; John Brown b. abt 1845 in Tennessee, USA; Henry Brown b. abt 1846 in Tennessee, USA; Josiah Brown b. abt 1847 in Tennessee, USA; James Brown b. abt 1848 in Tennessee, USA; Thomas Balaam Brown b. abt 1849 in Tennessee, USA; William Jasper Brown b. 15 Dec 1850 in Tennessee, USA; Elisha Brown b. abt 1853 in Tennessee, USA; George Brown b. abt 1854 in Tennessee, USA; Elizabeth Brown b. abt 1855 in Tennessee, USA; Robert Brown b. abt 1858 in Tennessee, USA; and Charlie b. abt 1861 in Tennessee, USA.
Emily died sometime between 1861 and 1870. In the 1870 US Federal Census (Madison, TN), she is no longer listed with Elisha and the family.
Elisha married Martha Ann Kilpatrick on 29 Jan 1873. In the 1880 US Federal Census (Madison, TN), Elisha and Martha had three children living with them:
George b. abt 1857 in Tennessee, USA; Charlie b. abt 1861 in Tennessee, USA; and Lorenza b. abt 1876 in Tennessee, USA.
It appears that Lorenza is Elisha and Martha's son.
Emily's parents were John Sanford b. 1788 and Lucy Newsom b. 1793. There is quite a bit of information about the Sanford and Newsom families available on ancestry.com. They came from Virginia and had many children who had many children, etc.
If you have any information about Elisha, his parents or his children, I would love to hear from you. If you have any information about Emily's death, I would enjoy connecting with you too.
