1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces and family relationships +++
It's not likely you will find any records of his ancestors in the US census records. Without knowing the specific birth location it's almost impossible to locate any records.Any records that are located will be written in either GERMAN or RUSSIAN.How good are your language skills.US census records do not record the specific locality of a person'd birth.
Also, remember GER & Russia had several wars throughout the 1800's not to mention WWI & WWII. Many towns & villages were destroyed along with any records.
