Hi Phyl, I went through all this also.Yes, there's more than one George W. Green in the area.
John W. and Susan are both enumerated as Greens and niece and nephew in the 1880 census with the Rice family. They are also both Greens when they marryMarch 4th and 5th 1882 in Cedar County.Susan is shown b. ~ 1866 in censuses, and her headstone as Susan Boles d. 1909 Greene Co. MO also shows b. 1866.The George who was the son of Reynolds married Tabitha in 1862, and says in later censuses that he was only married once.So I believe these are two different guys.
There is also a George W. Green b. ~ 1838 MO, son of Levi and Emaline. Was looking good - George was with parents in 1850 MO, not in 1860, and back with them in 1870 Iowa census. Then I read his bio on Mills Co. IA genweb, and he had gone to California during the period he was missing. He was also consistently shown as single in all censuses.UGH.
There was also a George down in Butler County 1850, but that seems too far away, and I can't find any of them anyway.
Maybe there was a transcription error on the George that we need for 1850, which is why we aren't finding him?Or maybe he wasn't really born in MO?The chase is on!
