Lydia m. 2) John D. Main.
John D Main was b. Apr. 4, 1836 in NY and m. ca. 1886.
I assume this was a second marriage for both.
He died Oct. 20, 1913 in Ionia, MI.
He was in Co H, 99th Illinois, and served under the name of William Marshall. I have been told by Civil War re-enactors that this was probably NOT a substitute for someone, but rather, he may have been a spy...
Family lore suggests that he was an officer and led a charge after a truce, and so was demoted.I have been thinking I should write to re-enacors of that infantry and see what they may know. He had a sword, but Olie took it when she moved. My dad saw it often and told me about it.
John and Lydia's children:
Jessie "Jet", b. Sept. 1887 in Ionia, MI, m. Morton Underhill, and d. 1920 in the flu epidemic of 1918. (It was still in progress).
Olie b. Ionia April 1893, and. m. Irving Green. They later moved to Battle Creek.
I have seen John Main and wondered about that. It seems that Calhoun Co. is where they were. I don't remember if it is Lois or Mary that I saw him with. BUT Olie, his daughter, DID move to Battle Creek...
I also keep thinking that Harvey Austin is related. He keeps bothering me, but I have not yet found a connection. There is a Harvey in Cayuga Co, NY in 1860 and he has wife, Margaret. He was 30. I wonder if he is perhaps a grandson to a brother of my Solomon.
I also saw a Harvey Austin in Sidney, Shelby, Ohio, in 1860, who was 36.
They had Mary H., Emma, Frank, and Tom Neal.
I have also seen a Harvey in MI, and I think that may have been in Calhoun, Barry, and/or Ionia Co.
That's what I have, and I'm excited to hear more from you.
