The museum was originally called the Edison Institute. Both the museum and Greenfield Village opened in 1929, I believe. They are located on about 90 acres of land in Dearborn, Wayne Co., Michigan. Much of the land in the area is owned by Ford Motor Company. Whether this particular land was purchased for its intended purpose, or if it was just some unused property that Ford already owned, I don't know. Your best bet would be to contact the research center at the facility http://www.hfmgv.org/research/index.htmlhttp://www.hfmgv.org/research/index.html or do a deed search via Wayne County.
