I think my great-grandmother was hatched.Okay, not really, but I can't seem to find ANY record of her birth.
She was born December 18, 1908 in Detroit. Her mother was Lisa Claire Raymond. The confusion comes in where her father was concerned.
For most of her early years, she went by Florence Sharp(e).I think this is the name she gave on her social security application, too.She later had a stepfather named McHerron. But we believe her birth father's name was Walker.(For some reason I've been looking for "Arthur Walker," but I'm honestly not sure where the "Arthur" came from.)
The family story is that her birth father died before she was born. This is still a possibility, but it also doesn't seem unlikely that she was simply illegitimate and this was the "cleaned-up" story the family told.
I'm not finding any record of a baby Walker, Sharp, Sharpe, or Raymond (or Wright - I even looked up her grandmother's maiden name) in the Michigan birth records for 1908.
I understand that her mother worked on a ferry or something at Port Huron and was, therefore, away a lot.Florence lived with her grandma in 1910 (she appears on the census) and by 1920 she lived with her mother again. But I can find no further clue of what was going on prior to 1910.
If anyone has information about who this "Walker" might be, and/or where I might be able to find more information, I would greatly appreciate it.(I am not local.)
