I am searching for information on Frank W. Thompson. He was born ca 1884-6 in Montana. He married Bessie Willie Short 15 Aug 1921, Phenix City, AL. They had two children: Paul Matthew (b 24 Jan 1922, Montgomery AL, deceased) and Mary Katherine (b 4 Nov 1923, Camden, Arkansas, living). The birth certificates for Paul and Mary confirm that Frank was born at about 1884-6 and that he was born in Montana. Frank died ca 1925 either in a minning accident or of ptomaine poisoning - location unknown. My grandmmother was in the hospital at the time, and said "his family" buried him - again location unknown.
I see my grandmother Bessie as a widow with children Paul and Mary in 1930 census in Wichita Falls Texas - again confirming that Frank was born in Montana.
I see Frank in Savannah, Georgia boarding with Regina Rodgers in 1920 census. He is shown born ca 1884, Montana, parents born NC. I have been unable to track Frank backwards any further for certain.
Grandmother said he had a twin brother named Carl or Carol - otherwise no other names or locations are known. Frank and Carl's parents were supposedly missionaries who went to Montana - faith unknown and all searches for Baptist and other religions show nothing of any missionaries to Montana named Thompson.
I see a Frank Wilber/Willer Thompson in the census records of Broadwater Co., MT - however, I have been able to prove that this is not my grandfather.
I see a Frank Thompson in the 1900 census in Miles City as an "inmate", aged 16, born in Montana is probably not my grandfather - but I have been unable to prove this as yet. I have records from the state regarding his "inmate" status. He was a repeated runaway after his mothers remarriage. This Frank was the son of Luella and had a sister named Etta. Luella later married James Sommerville and they lived in Park Co MT as well as other locations. Luella died pre 1910. She is shown as a Taylor before she married James Sommerville. What does puzzle me (with the knowledge that census dates are not always correct) is that it shows Luella as born June 1866 in Missouri (parents born in KY) in 1900 and her daughter shown as born Oct 1879 in Missouri (parents born in MO). That would mean that Luella was only 13 when her daughter was born. Possible, not probable. And, the census indicates that she had only 2 children (Frank being one of them). This would exclude any Carl/Carol unless Etta married a Carl/Carol. Knowing that all family "stories" are not true - the story of Carl/Carol and missionary parents goes back for about 50+ years. And grandmother was consistent about it, making me think there is at least a thread of truth there.
I have tried all the spellings I can think of and just cannot locate him any further back than 1920 for certain. My Mom does not remember him at all, and her older brother just barely remembered him, so we believe he died about 1925-7, certainly before 1930.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Would really like to find Frank's parents and his death before my Mom passes on - and she is 90.
