I am searching information about this family. Related to his Grandson John Murphy married to Rachel Cook. I am looking for confirmation as to Revolutionary War records of William and John Murphy and William Cook. Rachel was married to John Murhpy and her father was William Cook. John Murphy's father was William Murphy and they all served in the revolutionary war. I have included the following information as to the family taken from family papers. From Griffee Lineage from W. Murphy, Cook, Ferguson and Wallace Families done in the 1950's. Thank you, Jeannie Perrin
1..My 5Grandfather William Murphy came from Ireland before 1732 and settled in Spottyslvania Co. Virginia. We have no dates of his birth or dearh nor is the name of his wife known. He had a least three children, William, Joseph and Richard. William and Joseph were Babtist preachers and were well known throughout southwestern Virginia and the Carolinas and were referred to as "The Murphy boys". Joseph remained in North Carolina but William moved to Tennessee in 1782 in what is now Knox Co. Tennessee.
2.William Murphy son of William from Ireland and ? Murphy was born in 1732 in Spottsvania Co. Va died around 1800 in Tennessee. He married 1st Martha Hodge and had six children who was the mother of John Murphy born June 12, 1752. I do not have the other names. 2. Sarah Barton and had six children by her.
John Murphy son of William and Martha (Hodge) Murphy b.June 12, 1752 iin Halifax Co. Va d. Aug 14, 1818 in Warren Co. Kentucky m. Feb 8 1774 to Rachel Cook, probably in Shousther Va or North Carolina. With the exception of Hannah Murphy Ferguson who stayed in Ky and Hosea Muruphy who died at age 25 in Ky the others with their families all moved to Illinoise. John, Isaac and Joseph were Baptist preachers in Ky. but went into the Christian Church(Disaciples of Christ). Before they left Ky. The brother John remained a Babptist all his life, altho most of his children went into the Christian Church.
