Rudolf M. Lerke, born 11/11/1872. Occupation - watchman in M.P. R.R. shop. Wife - Hanriata Lerke. He was medium height and build, light brown eyes and hair.
1915 South Dakota census. Emilie Lerke, age 10, resident of South Dakota for 1/2 year. Henrietta, age 47, born in Germany. In US 43 years. Rudolph M, age 43. Born in Germany. In US 35 years. Married in 1903 to Henrietta Bartels or Batle(?)
According to this, Emelia was adopted. That would explain why she wasn't on the 1910 census with Rudolph and Henrietta.
My grandfather Gust Albert Lerke arrived at the Port of New York from Wolc, Prussia, Germany in 1880. His father Albert Wilhelm Lerke was already in the United States. Gust came with his mother Amelia Berg Lerke and his brother Rudolph and sisters Magdalena and Auguste. Sometime agfter they arrived they went to Nebraska. My first documentation in official records is for the marriage of Gust to my grandmother, Ida M. Hickok in Fremont, Nebraska April 21, 1892. None of his family appeared in any Nebraska Census until 1920 when Rudolph, Hattie and Amelia were living in Omaha.
Gust A. Lerke born Wolc, Prussia, Germany May 31, 1867 Married Ida M. Hickok in Nebraska Rudolph M. Lerke born Wolc, Germany abt 1872 Married Hattie ? in Nebraska. According to family stories, they had only one child, an adopted daughter named Amelia. Auguste Lerke Married Henry Flanine (Flamme) in Nebraska Magdalena Lerke born abt. 1875 in Wolc, Germany Married Louis Sfuhler (Spuhler) in Nebraska
Rudolph, Auguste and Magdalena remained in Nebraska. Gust moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1897-98 then to Ogle Flats , New Mexico in 1906. I have contacted the Spuhler family still living in Nebraska. They remember having met Rudolph, but not much is known about him. He had a raspberry farm in northeastern Nebraska, he worked as a postal clerk in Dodge County. I have a photo of him and Hattie early in their marriage and later in life. Lois Watkins Morgan"
