Sorry, I have this posted in several different state forums. Here is more info that has recently been found, and a possible birth family. Now we try to confirm what we have found.
Mabel Myrtle Atkinson (adopted last name) may have been born Myrtle Mabel Woody. B 1898, married in Oregon to a Bates, possibly John.
Melvin C Atkinson. Birth name Melvin Chester Woody. B 1902 Missouri or Oklahoma. Adopted approx. 1904 by Robert O and Serepta Atkinson family of Lemley, McPherson, Nebraska. Married Mabel Phipps 1925 in Kelowna, BC, Canada. D 1991 Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Possible adoption places: Enid or Canton Oklahoma.
Yesterday we found information that they had an older brother, possibly named John. Through searches of "Myrtle Woody" we have found a possible family!
Father: John T Woody b 1866 Missouri, married Agness T 1898. Children of Agness are John H M Woody, and Myrtle Woody, born 1896 and 1898. This might be a stretch; however, it fits with what we now know. If correct. Agness had two children with John T, and one with someone else in a prior marriage or encounter. When Agness left John T, she took all three children, but was forced to give up the younger two to avoid them returning to their father. She retained custody of her older son. The older son later met Myrtle Mabel in Oregon.
What we would like to know: is it possible this is the correct family? We have tried to track this family passed 1900, but are unable to find their locations. We would really like to find what happened to John H M Woody, born 1896 in Missouri to Agness Woody. A marriage record for Agness T Woody would give us her previous name as well.
