I'll take a drive over to the stockyards tomorrow...that area of town has always been of interest to me. It is now largely hispanic, but in the day it was populated mostly by Chech and not far from there is an Irish area of town that is still very Irish. One of my past professors specializes in Irish history and is very in touch with Omaha's Irish. I will contact him and see what he might know about the Delmonico...as well as a current professor who has done considerable writing about the history of Omaha. I look forward to seeing the pictures so I can locate where it is today.
My Tennessee people came from Virginia and North Carolina as well. Lowry, Dowdy, Throgmorton, Hutchins and Burnette are my surnames. They settled in Henry and Benton County in Tennesse and my Hutchins came out of Bath County Kentucky and settled in Calloway County, KY. I've seen the Sykes [Sikes] name in our research...perhaps you have some family in these areas? We've done extensive research in Tennessee and are ready to hit North Carolina, hopefully this summer. ` Leah Hoins
