Your QUERY: "We have an old family legend that states that Sarah Ann (Davis) was half Pawnee and not officially adopted into the family in the late 1800's (abt 1880). Sarah Ann was supposedly born in Beatrice, NB and that her mother Alma (100% Pawnee) was from Massachusetts (unlikely)." ----------------------
Hi. You mention that Sarah Ann (Davis) was not officially adopted into "the family" - what family? You have Davis in (parenthesis) so I'm not sure what that means.
Is Davis the surname of Sarah Ann's adoptive family? Was Davis her mother's maiden name? Was Davis the name of a father who gave up Sarah for adoption/foster care?
Sarah Ann had the legal name Davis? but may have used another surname (of adoptive family)?
Was Sarah's mother Alma part of "the family" you mention? Or was she a mother who gave up Sarah for adoption/foster care but was not part of "the family"?
Sarah Ann was "not adopted" in 1880? Or was born in 1880?
I did try to answer the questions myself with a search but seems I can't without clarification from you.
