"The Nebraska State Journal" [Lincoln, Lancaster Co., NE], 12 Nov 1898, p. 6:
Edward Hartquest died yesterday at his home, Twenty-seventh and E streets. Mr. Hartquest recently went to Jacksonville to care for his brother who was a member of the Third Nebraska regiment. The bother [sic] was suffering from typhoid fever and when he was able to come home five weeks ago Mr. Hartquest accompanied him to this city. Soon after his return Mr. Hartquest was taken sick with typhoid feve [sic]. He was getting along nicely and his condition was not considered dangerous, but yesterday noon he became worse and within fifteen minutes he was dead. The sick soldier is considered out of danger. Mr. Hartquest was employed by Deemer & Co., at Twenty-seventh and E streets. He was married last April, but leaves no other relatives except his brother. The remains may be taken to Aurora where his parents are buried. The young man was very popular among a large circle of friends. He was regarded as a young man of high character and his death is mourned by all who knew him.

The funeral of Edward A. Hartquest was held at his late residence, 2705 E. street, yesterday morning at 8:30. The body was taken to Richland cemetery, near Marquette, Nebr., for burial. Mr. Hartquest was born in McHenry county, Illinois, October 5, 1867, and died at his home, 2705 E street, in this city, November 11. He came to Nebraska in 1883, living with his parents near Marquette until 1891, since which time he has lived at Lincoln. He leaves a wife to whom he was married April 20 of this year, three brothers, one living at Aurora and two in Lincoln, and four sisters, two living in Illinois and two near Marquette, Neb.
