Looking for descendants of NIELSEN/NELSON family:
Maren Kirstine RASMUSSEN (RASMUSDATTER), b. 10 Feb 1832 in Vindebæk, Fanefjord, Præsto, Denmark on the island of Møn (Moen), married as her first husband, Lars CHRISTOPHERSEN on 8 Sep 1854 in Fanefjord Church.Lars CHRISTOPHERSEN was b. about 1825.They had two children together:
1) Rasmus LARSEN, b. 29 Dec 1855 in Vindebæk, Fanefjord, Præsto (Møn)
2) Jens LARSEN, b. 24 Jan 1860 in Haarboelle, Fanefjord, Præsto (Møn)
After her first husband died, Maren RASMUSDATTER married as her second husband on 16 Apr 1862 in Fanefjord Church, Peder NIELSEN, b. 4 Jan 1826 in Udbye, Stege, Møn, Denmark. He was christened on 19 Jan 1826. In some American records, the place was shown as “Budbe,” but the correct spelling is “Udbye.” Budbe does not exist in Denmark.
Further, some American records show Maren as Maren CHRISTOFERSEN.This is understandable because her first husband’s name was CHRISTOPHERSEN. Their marriage record, extract of the parish record 539-2-004-K11-15-A shows the following: “Ungkarl Peder Nielsen af Udby, Stege Landsogn, 36 Aar” [ bachelor Peder Nielsen of Udby Stege Rural Parish] and “Enke efter Lars Christophersen, Maren Kirstine Rasmussen af Haarboelle, 30 Aar” [ Widow after Lars Christophersen, Maren Kirstine Rasmussen of Haarboelle, 30 years].
Maren and Peder had these children:
1) Sidse Marie NIELSEN, later known as Mary NELSON, b. 11 May 1864 at Haarboelle, Fanefjord, Præsto (Møn); d. 3 Jun 1935
2) Lars Peder NIELSEN, b. 12 Nov 1866 at Haarboelle
3)Anna Sophie Caroline NIELSEN, a.k.a. Anna Sophie NELSON, b. 10 Apr 1869 at Haarboelle; d. 7 May 1949 at Gothenburg, Dawson, Nebraska; m. Nils WESTMAN
4)Hanna Peterine NIELSEN, a.k.a. Hanna Katharine NELSON, b. 7 Jan 1873 in Denmark; d. 8 Jun 1944
5)Christiana NIELSEN, b. 3 Oct 1875 in Denmark; d. 16 July 1943 at Minden, Kearney, Nebraska; m. Thomas RODINE
6)Ane Petrine NIELSEN, b. abt. 1874
7)Mette Christine NIELSEN, b. abt. 1876 in Denmark
On 23 Oct 1879, Peder NIELSEN and Maren RASMUSSEN came to the United States. In 1800, they were enumerated in the 1880 U.S. Census for Oneida, Kearney, Nebraska as Peter, 53; Mary, 47; Mary, 16; Anna, 11; Hannah, 7; and Christina, 4and with the surname, NIELSEN. Later records show them using the surname, NELSON.
My descendancy is through Maren RASMUSSEN’s sister, Karen RASMUSDATTER, who came to the U.S. with her husband.Karen, known in the U.S. as “Carrie JENSEN,” lived in Eureka, Humboldt, California.Another sister, Bodil RASMUSSEN, moved with her family to New Zealand. Some of Karen’s children stayed in Denmark, and that may also have been the case with some of the children of Maren and Bodil.I have a lot of documented family history to share.
