Some time ago I came across a newspaper article concerning the building of the high school and it mentioned the site of Poteet's pasture being one of the locations being considered. It was the one chosen. The pasture apparently occupied a whole block.
Falls City had several baseball teams through the early years."Colts" was a common name, "Occidentals" was another.About 1908, the city had a chance to join the M.I.N.K. (Missouri-Iowa-Nebraska-Kansas) League then being formed. The town built a baseball field and bleachers in the new city park on the west side of town to bolster its chances of getting into the league.Falls City got in and the league lasted for several years. The team name was once again the "Colts."
The old auditorium (called the "Sheepshed") was moved to the park from Harlan Street. It was eventually razed and a new city auditorium built downtown.
The baseball field is still at the park and still in use by American Legion teams.
