I am an adoptee who has been reunited with my Birth Mom for over 7 years. I am searching for my Birth Father.
My story is very different in that I was techinically a black market adoptee. My birth mother entered the hospital under a false name which the doctor provided. There was never to be an adoption, she was told she was entering the hospital under the name of the woman who would be my mother, in reality there was. Because of all the falsification of the records it took me 23 years to find my birth mom. You can find my adoption story at: http://home.hiwaay.net/~saoirse/adoption/adoptee.htmhttp://home.hiwaay.net/~saoirse/adoption/adoptee.htm
There were so many inconsistancies in all the files that for many years I have put the search for my birth father on hold. But I felt that it was time to take the next step to finally complete the circle. My Birth Mom says she does not remember much about my Birth Father. She tells me it was a short term relatonship, possibly 2-3 months, in the latter part of 1952. Mom was working at the Newbury's store in Ashtabula and met him though a friend. She says she remembers him as being either Italian or Spanish. At one time she told me his name might have been Joe, but is not sure, and another time she said he may have been a cab driver, but the story changes.
Because of all the inconsistancies in the records and Mom's lack of information regarding my Birth Father I decided to ask the Magistrate in Cuyahoga County to open my adoption records so I could try and discover the circumstances surrounding my birth. Because my adoption took place before 1964 my records were already open to me in the State but the County records remained sealed. On June 8th, I had a hearing with the Magistrate in Cuyahoga County. I walked out of her office with copies of 4 documents, 4 sheets of paper which it took me nearly 48 years to obtain. Information from my adoption file. It was a red letter day for me, I had been trying to obtain the information for years and years and years.
Much of the information contained in the file I knew. Some I didn't. The legal documents are still very questionable because of the circumstances surrounding my adoption. What was there though was a description of my Birth Father."The father of the child is tall, blue-eyed, blonde, is a high school graduate, protestant, has no inheritable diseses as far as the mother know."Thats it that is all there is as far as any information about him. Mom says that that is not true, and she has no idea where they got that information because she never met with any one. All the signatures, that are suppose to be my Birth Mothers, on all the documents appear to be different.I keep wondering if I will ever learn the truth with all the secrets and lies.
All I know is is this. I know my Birth Mom worked at Newberry's in late 1952. I know my Birth Father was from that area. I know that they dated for several months and I am a product of that relationship. He may or may not have been Italian or Spanish, or he may have been a tall, blue eyed blonde. Mom says he had no knowledge of me that she never told him. But just because she didn't does not mean that someone else didn't.
I am trying to locate anyone who may have known my Birth Mom back then or may have worked at Newberry's. Anyone who might have information on my Birth Father. For all I know he may be searching for me. I speculate that he is in his 70's because my Birth Mom was 23 at the time of my birth on July 17, 1953. I will be 48 next week. I want my life to come full circle.
If there is anything anyone who reads this posting remembers concerning Newberry's, my Birth Mother or Birth Father or if there is anything you might be able to do to help me I would be very grateful. I would be happy to provide identifying information by personal e-mail.
