I am looking for the family of MARTIN BRENNAN and MARY CRAIG of Ashtabula, Ashtabula County, Ohio.
MARTIN BRENNAN was born about 1853 in Ireland, and died about 1890 in Ashtabula, Ashtabula County, OH.He married MARY CRAIG.She was born about 1857 in Ohio, and died April 10, 1920 in Ashtabula, Ashtabula County, OH.
Children of MARTIN BRENNAN and MARY CRAIG are (all probably born in Ashtabula, OH):
1)CATHERINE (KATE) BRENNAN (b. 1880) adopted by JOHN H. CHENEY? 2)MARTIN J. BRENNAN (b. 1881, d. 1940, Massillon, Stark County, OH) 3)JOHN P. BRENNAN (b. 1882, d. 1913, Ashtabula County, OH) 4)THOMAS BRENNAN (b. 1883) 5)MARY BRENNAN (b. 1886, d. 1937, Ashtabula, OH) m. (1) _____WILLIAMS, m. (2) JESSE POTTER. 6)WILLIAM BRENNAN (b. 1887) 7)JANE (JENNIE) M. BRENNAN (b. 1888) m. EDWARD G. COLIN. 8)EDWARD JAMES BRENNAN (b. 1890)
Martin Brennan died young about 1890, leaving his wife with eight young children. Most of the children were temporarily placed in a children’s home in Ashtabula, then transferred elsewhere. Most of the boys were sent to the Ohio Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Orphan’s Home in Xenia, Greene County, Ohio.A few of the daughters were placed in other homes, while some were returned to their mother, who had probably remarried, possibly to a man by the name of DOWNS / DOWNES.It appears that the youngest child, Edward, was left with his mother the entire time, probably because he was so young.
If any of these names sound familiar to you, please contact me.Thank you.
