My Grandfather was born in 1914 in Buchtel, OH. His family settled in Ohio from Italy. They moved around a lot and went to where the work was. When he was 12 years old, in 1927 or so, his mother, Maria Concetta (Puglia) Procopio was hit by a train (B & O RR) in the vicinity of Bannock (Taplin? can't find it on the map) Belmont County, on her way to Lafferty and killed along with the baby she was carrying. The youngest children were sent into an orphanage, while the older children went to work in the coal mines.
His father, Frank V. Procopio got the younger kids back a few years later and the family was reunited. I am looking for any news articles or any scrap of info relating to this tragedy as well as any other info in locating the burial place of my Great Grandmother. The church to which they belonged supposedly burned down and the records are lost. All I know is that it was in the vicinity of Lafferty, Ohio.It may have been a catholic or Italian Cemetery. The baby she was carrying was a 4 month old son named Guido.Maria was the sister of Sam Puglia who was a coal miner and ran a travelling shooting gallery. Any help at all would be most helpful.
