Scott; you may have a point there regarding both families beingin Belmont County.I just copied my McElroys on the 1900 census last week. I knew that the one son,Samuel had been born in Ireland, but not for sure when the family came over here. Got my answer, he was 45 on that census record and put down that he had been here 44 years, which fits with my g-grandma's notes. He was naturalized. That will be next but I have to learn how to get those records. I don't know if you are aware of the book "Burial Records of Greenwood Cemetery", but most of my McElroys are buried there.I will be glad to e-mail you all the McElroy names and dates if you think it might give you some clues. (Greenwood used to be called Rose Hill). Since my family came over during that mass immigration from the famine it is very possible that yes, they did have someone here already.I always wondered how they chose Belmont.
