Hello C. Thompson,
Welcome to the mystery of Phebe James. If my finger count is right she is my GGGGgrand-mother via son George. Most of what I know is from the text of her will, it is as follows;
Kenny, Phebe, Uwchlan
4-17-1813. Aug. 14, 1820.
To Elizabeth, wife of my sonGeorge Kenny, and Ann, Wife of my son James, all wearing apparel.
To sons George, James and Thomas Kenny $80 each.
To chilren of son Daniel kenny, Dec’d., viz; Daniel, Maxwell, James and Eleanor, $20 each.
To son Richard $80 and whatever may be coming to me from the estate of late brother, Thomas James, deceased.
Executor: son Richard Kenny.
Witness: George Mechem, Joshua B. Sharpless.
Based upon other bits of info, I suspect that her father was William James of Chester, Pa. but there isn't any conclusive proof.
Of her children;
George, m. Elizabeth, migrated to Malaga, Monroe, Ohio circa 1818, I suspect that he may have lived in or near Pittsburgh, Pa. before coming to Ohio. Known children; George, Frederick and Barbara.
Daniel, m. Elinor Maxwell, died some time before 1828. Known children; Maxwell, Daniel, James and Eleanor Ann. Elinor and children migrated to Hackensack, NJ.
James, a complete mystery.
Thomas, m. Elizabeth Mendenhall. Known children; Hannah, Edith and Samuel.
Richard, m. Mary Mechem, m.2nd Sussanah Harris of Harrison Co., Ohio. Known children Jane and possibly Richard. Morgan Co. census records indicate a Ritchie Kenney, but I have no conclusive link.
I have not explored the Smith connection as of yet. My current focus is that of George and desc.'s.
You now know what I know, should you have any info that would add to the effort, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Jim Kenney
