I am trying to find any information to help breach the "brick wall" in researching my 3rd great-grandfather, Jacob Over.ANY help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
What I have learned about him follows:Jacob is described in the Clark County histories I have located as "a Pennsylvania German" who was a veteran of the War of 1812 and apparently died by drowning "shortly" after returning from the war.His son, Elias, was born in German Township in 1811 and apparently grew up, married, began his family and lived there for a considerable period before moving to Indiana.
I obtained Jacob's military records from the National Archives - just a pay record so no help there.
I do not know Jacob's wife's name (but it could be Catherine as there is a Catherine Over listed in the German Township census).I belive they may have married in Pennsylvania (uncertain where) before moving to Ohio. If there still exist baptismal records for Elias where might these be located which would give his mother's name?
Does anyone know if there was any kind of newspaper published in the area which may have given an account of Jacob's drowning?
I have really hit a block.Anyone have any ideas?Thanks!
