It has been several years since I posted about this Smith family.I'm hoping there is some new information out there to help me.
I am looking for the family of ENOS SMITH, b-May 4, 1811, NJ (highly probable Gloucester Co.) The Thompson Genealogy states his parents were John and Anna Smith. It also states they were Methodists.
1820 Census records in Clermont Co., OH indicate there is a John Smith that fits the ages needed to be this family.
A will of a John Smith Sr. (from NJ) also living in Clermont Co., dated 1824 gives land to Ann Smith, the widow of his son, John Smith Jr. for the young heirs of his son. John Jr. died relatively young. Other siblings of John Jr. were: Elizabeth "Betsey", who was married to a Joseph Smith (possibly a cousin); George, whose wife was Charity (Crane); Susannah, who was married to Rev.Evi Dailey; Mary, the wife of Robert Doughty; Jedidiah; and Daniel who also died before John Sr.
John SMITH [Jr] m 15Jun 1799 Gloucester Co NJ to Ann GARRISON (Anna GARRETSON d/o Elijah Garretson/Garrison. The latter was by a James STEELMAN, Justice of the Peace. Does anyone have Methodist church or Friends records or county records to show the names of the children of these people? There is reason to believe, (no documentation) that Enos had several siblings, 2 brothers and 6 sisters. John Jr. had died before 1824 at the time his father wrote his will.I can find no record of what happened to Ann and the children after his death.
This family left New Jersey ca. 1816-1819 and was in Clermont Co., OHIO by 1820. Does anyone have Smith family information with this line who could help me? I would love to find other children of John Jr. and Ann.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Debbie Mangen Anthony, KS
