I am preparing a transcription and a digital image of each of the pages from an autograph album started on December 25, 1885, by Maggie Darby. It is believed that Maggie Darby either lived in Westboro or attended school there during this time.Upon completion of the transcription and scanning of the sixty-plus inscriptions in the album which spans the years 1885 - 1928, that work will be posted on-line and made available to anyone who is interested in seeing the handwriting of relatives from this time as well as reading their sentiments.
Here are some of the place names from Clinton County:Westboro, Midland City, Blanchester, Martinsville. From Brown County were Levanna and FiveMile.Springfield (Clark County) and Maineville (Warren County) were also mentioned.A community named "Union Valley, Ohio" could not be located to county using the Ohio Historical Society, city to county locator.Does anyone have knowledge of where Union Valley might have been located? Also mentioned in the album are two Kentucky locations: Paris and Berlin.
Most of the 60-plus entries are dated; only 11 are not.Thirty entries were made in 1886 -- and the last entry was dated in 1928.Tucked into the back of the album were: (1) a picture inscribed "Taken December 8, 1936. Darby sisters. Maggie and Willa" and (2) a postcard addressed to "Miss Emma Dimmitt, Westboro, Ohio" announcing the "Westboro School Reunion" for "Sunday, August 29, 1920, Maretta Hammer Moon, Sec., Morrow, Ohio."
If anyone has information about the Darby sisters, especially Maggie, from the Westboro area of Clinton County during the 1885 - 1936 time period, I would appreciate hearing from you.
A list of the surnames from this album will be posted in a later message to this forum.
