I would be very interested in ANY information anyone may have on the family of William Biggs and Hester Markley who married in 1813 in Coshocton Co., Ohio.
I am searching for the parents of Mary Polly Biggs (b. 1816, m. Joseph K. Butler in 1833 in Coshocton Co., d. 1879 in New Castle, Coshocton Co., Ohio). From many census and other records, the only possible female consistent with "Mary Polly Biggs b. 1816" in the 1820 and 1830 census records appears in the William BIGGS-Hester MARKLEY household (actually, three possible females appear) in Coshocton Co.From census data for Coshocton and Knox Co for 1820 and 1830, only other possible female of correct age is in family of Jeremiah Biggs, but in this family, a daughter, Mary, is reported as marrying an Isaac Baker in Knox Co. in 1821.
William Biggs married Hester Markley in Coshocton Co. in 1813.The 1820 census record for this household for 1820 is as follows:1820 CENSUS - COSHOCTON CO., OHIO, township appears to be Tuscarawas Twp.; 1 M <10, 1 M 25-44; 3 F <10, 1 F 26-44.This household contains THREE possible females consistent with Mary Polly Biggs b. 1816.Several Markley households appear further down the page (2nd, 5th and 9th down].Also adjacent to John Banthum, Sr., cf. marriage of Noah Butler (an uncle of Joseph K.) to Nancy Banthum and marriage of his daughter Betsey Butler (a first cousin of Joseph K. Butler) to Abraham Markley 8/14/1821.
I cannot find the BIGGS-MARKLEY household 1830, 1840 or 1850 census records for Coshocton or Knox Co.A William Biggs, Jr. household appears in the 1830 census for Knox Co., but the household does not contain a female of the correct age in the 1830 census and he is likely the son of another, older William Biggs present in Knox Co. or a son of Jeremiah Biggs or one of his brothers.
HYPOTHESIS – Father (William BIGGS) and/or Mother (Hester MARKLEY) died between 1828 and 1830 and the children were parceled out to various Biggs/Markley relatives.
There is further circumstantial evidence for this hypothesis via several identified children of this marriage being in Coshocton Co. in the 1850 census, and the bio of their son, William (b. 1828), as a resident of Jackson twp., Coshocton Co. in the 1881 History of Coshocton Co.In addition the names of the children of Mary Polly Biggs included a “William” and a “Hetty”.The name “William” does NOT appear on the Butler side in prior generations.Hetty does appear as the name of a sister of Joseph K., but it is also a nickname for Hester. There is some further name correspondence in later generations.
Repeating, I would be very interested in any information anyone may have on the family of William Biggs and Hester Markley.
