The youngest son of DAVID and ELIZABETH MEEK was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, Feb. 2l, l842, and died at his home in Leon, Iowa, July l3, l924; aged 82 years, 4 months and 22 days. About the year of l855, he with his parents and other relatives, started for Iowa with teams and wagons but while crossing Illinois, the father sickened and died and was buried there; this changed their plans and they returned at once to their former home. In l856, they again started west, this time locating in Madison County, Iowa, and two years later moved to Decatur County, settling on a farm in Eden Township, where they lived for many years. He remained at home caring for his now aged mother until her death, which occurred December, l88l. He was married to AMELIA SOUTHWORTH, June 8, l886, they continued to make this their home until recent years when failing health caused them to try western climate and for some years they lived in Colorado, Washington and California. Their last trip being to Siloam Springs, Ark. In March, l922, they returned to Leon where they have since resided. His wife only living a short time after their return here, passing away, May l7, l922. Since her death his nephew and niece, LAFE MITCHELL and wife have kept up his home and caring for him during the remainder of his life, making life as pleasant and comfortable as possible. He obeyed the Gospel under the preaching of J.C. Porter and was a loyal supporter of the church till death. The hearts of both were with the orphans and the greater part of their means was given to the support of the various orphan homes. Almost his last request was "Remember the Orphans."
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Chapel in Leon, July l5th, conducted by Wm. Campbell, of Davis City. Interment in Meek Cemetery on Eden Prairie.
