Many thanks! While making notes of this, I did come across one other note that I did have on that family. It is from page 111 of Race and kinship in a Midwestern town: The black experience in Monroe, Michigan, 1900-1915 by James E DeVries. If reads, "Elizabeth Waring Foster, a native of Virginia, was at least three-quarters Caucasian." And is then followed by an endnote: [Endnote #10 - Mrs. Rose Ellen Foster Dempsey of Helena, Montana, a great-granddaughter of Levi and Elizabeth Waring Foster has conducted extensive research into her genealogy. Her investigation indicates that Elizabeth Waring’s maternal grandmother was a slave, while both her other grandparents were white-hence the three-fourths judgement,]
Do you have any information on David Waring or Louisa Beynhan's parents?
I don't know where I got it anymore, which makes it suspect, but I have Louisa's father as William Beynhan, while for David Waring I have father Capt. Billy Waring, born in Liverpool, England, and mother Arrica Vessels, the daughter of Achilles Vessels and Judith Goil. I further have two siblings for David - Rosetta Waring-Simmons (d. 1834) and Henry Waring (d. 1833). I wish I knew where I got this information, but I just don't know.
