I am looking for the exact Death date of Elias T. Payne born to Raphael Payne and Winifred (Porter) in abt. 1823, in Knox Co., Ohio. Everything I have read says he died in 1900. Contrary to this, on June 11, 1900(US Census) Elias and his wife Louisa Jane (Sapp) are living with their daughter's family Mary F. (Payne) and William Miller in Union Twp., Knox Co., Ohio. I would like to know the exact day or at least the month Elias died so I can find his obituary. His wife Louisa died in Centerburg, Ohio, Knox Co on March 30, 1908 at Mary F. Miller's residence (Her daughter from above). It says in the Daily Republican News Mt. Vernon, "April 2.--(Special)--The remains of Mrs. Elias Payne were brought from Centerburg, Wednesday, and laid to rest beside her husband at Workman cemetery. Rev. Mr. Eglin of Centerburg accompanied the friends." With this statement I know they are both buried in Workman cemetery. There is one huge gravestone at Workman cemetery, Danville, Ohio that just says PAYNE on it. It is surrounded by some of Elias and Louisa's cildren so I figured they were buried there but I was not sure until I found Louisa's obit in the old newspaper. I also know that Elias died sometime between Nov. 03, 1901 and April 2, 1908. Any other info on Elias or Louisa or their families would be greatly appreciated.
I have recently found an article in a the Knox County Republican News that says "Our old and valued friends, Elias Payne and his wife, will move to Galion, Mrs. Payne having gone thither last week with Mrs. Miller, her daughter, with whom they will spend the coming winter. This was on Nov. 3, 1901.
I also found that William Miller sold his store in Danville and moved to Gailon to open up a new dry goods store.
I am thinking that he died while in Gailion and his remains were brought back to Danville. This may be why his is not in the death record index of Knox County. If anyone could give me any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.
