TIME Mag. reported on the 1931 outbreak: "Typhoid in a Mad House" Sep. 28, 1931, but little written concerning the 1936 episode. The Cleveland State Hospital report FY ending Dec. 31, 1936 by the Superintendent Guy H. Williams MD refers to the involvement of the Cleveland Department of Health. The autopsies were performed in-house by CSH physicians, where would those reports have been deposited after the closure of the institution ? Some CSH records are @ The Ohio Historical Society in Columbus, but not this data.
Ref. Cleveland Dept. of Health & Welfare/Div. of Health/Food & Drug Administration/Bureau of Sanitation (Historical Records Survey) p. 51 entry #5007 Data of Typhoid Cases, 1933-1937. (labelled records 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 14)
Any idea where those documents could be found ? Thanks. Researching Dorothy M. Lewis WALKEM (Mar.28, 1908/Nov.01, 1936) death certificate #67784 Cleveland State Hospital.
