George O. Kittleman / Kettleman was born Nov.2,1877 in Lorain,Ohio, son of Charles Kittleman and Margaret "Maggie" Smith / Schmidt of Cleveland,Cuyahoga County,Ohio. Charles later married abt. 1888 to Henrietta Ehrke. Henrietta Kittleman died at home (1493 E. 195th St.,Euclid,Ohio)Jan.17,1948.Their children where Marie/Mayme,Elsie , Pauline & William. George Oscar Kittleman married Elizabeth B.A. "Lizzie" Galloway (daughter of George & Isabella Galloway) about 1896. Elizabeth & George's first two babies died before June 2,1900 census, then Elizabeth had daughter Viola I. Kittleman about 1905 in Cleveland, and son Russell Kittleman about 1907 in Cleveland. Elizabeth B. A. (Galloway) Kittleman died Feb.13,1917 at Kokomo, Indiana at age 38 years. Funeral was at her sister's home Mrs. R.W. Dick 12815 Woodside Ave.,N.E. Sometime in Dec. 1918,14 year old Viola I. Kittleman / Kettleman became pregnant. On Aug.12,1919 she gave birth to a daughter Pearl J. (possibly Pearl Jane ?) Kittleman / Kettleman. Jan 1920 the two are listed in a home for unwed mother's and their babies in Cleveland. Pearl J. is 5 months and Viola (looks like Vida in census because they ran o next to the l) is age 15, Pearl's father listed as born NY. Viola leaves the home and next resides at 3748 Cedar Ave.,Cleveland. We think she still had daughter Pearl at this time, but she also became pregnant again about April 1921 by unknown ? possibly same father of Pearl or another man ? June 14,1921 she marries 43 year old William "Willard" Bevington of 3702 Cedar Ave.,Cleveland who appears to live apartment house with a brother James " Jim" Bevington, both work at a dairy . Willard is a son of Henry Bevington and Anna Cross of Wayne Co.,OH. Willard had been married and divorced to a Rhoda Blumbaugh. Two months later Willard Bevington filed for divorce on Aug.29,1921 in Cuyahoga Probate Court,Viola 4 months pregnant. Pearl just turned age two. I the decree granted Willard on Dec.19,1921 (Viola 8 months pregnant)it said Willard said that Viola had told him that the father of her 2 year old daughter was a man that she married he went off to World War I and was killed. Willard said that he learned that was a lie and that the child was out of wed lock. Papers (decree) says no children from this marriage. On Jan. 3,1922 in Cleveland Viola had a son named George R.,which she gave the name Bevington. Just after this it appears she gave 2 year old Pearl J. up for adoption. When she gave her up for adoption she her name as Pearl J. Bevington. In 1923 Fred J. & Margaret B. (Sterling) Pittenger finalized adoption of Pearl J. They named her Jane Sterling Pittenger. They were an upper class middle age couple that had only been married about 6 years with no children. They raised Jane in Shaker Heights and she went to Mount Union College and married, lived in Dearborn.MI.,had three children. Jane changed her name to Jane Margaret Pittenger at or just before high school. Viola had placed Pearl in the old Cleveland Protestant Orphan Asylum in Cleveland. March 5,1924 Viola married David Wert,he died June 14,1925 in Cuyahoga Co. Viola Wert then married Joseph "Joe" Hassen, born in Syria on July 20,1926,he was 27 she was 21. Viola it seems had no more children after George R. Bevington ,who she listed as George R. Wert in census with Hassen. Viola I. Hassen died Aug.12,1946 (note: on birth date of daughter Pearl J. / Jane M. Pittenger, who was age 27 when Viola died). Viola was only age 41. Jan. 13, 1965 Pearl J. / Jane M. (Pittenger) Hlavin died in Oakwood Hospital,Dearborn ,MI.,of breast cancer. Jane's daughter Audrey Jane was born Feb.13 the day that Elizabeth (Galloway) Kittleman died at age 39,when Viola was about age 12. George R. Bevington, died Oct. 9,1995 at Geauga Hospital.
