Thanks for your reply, Bill. I did request that death record for Charles "Nichials" a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the columns for occupation and parents' names were blank. For last address it gave "City Hospital" and diagnosis was "Fall/hemorrhage". My sister suggested recently that we try to get a newspaper obituary for this Charles. I had Western Reserve search that date and we got a death listing in the Cleveland Plain Dealer with no new information. But, we also got a copy of a report on the accident the day before, Jan.25, 1887. It said he was a carpenter working on the Brooklyn viaduct under construction when he fell and died of his injuries. It also said he left a wife and three children and that also fits. So, now we feel sure this was our great-grandfather! Our next step is to try and get a photo of his headstone in Erie Cemetery.
