Caroline Henderson was born in Cleveland in 1832. She married Elihu Simons in 1850 in Walker, Kent County, Michigan. After his death she married Anson Davis in Cedar Springs, Kent County, Michigan. This second marriage record gives Cleveland as her birth place. Caroline's father was Joseph Henderson who was born in Maine. In January 1813 he enlisted in the military in the War of 1812. He was discharged September 1814 at Greenbush, New York. His first wife, Laura Woodard died near Lake Champlain. He married Susannah Story. The pension applications reveal that Susannah had been married before as well to Enos Phippen.Enos is alleged to have died, but an Enos Phippen married an Anna Pulcher in 1831 in Portage, Ohio. Caroline's siblings included LovisaLovina, Louisa, Jasper, Elvira, Hellen, and Altany. According to the census they were born in Ohio. I guess these were before civil registration.What church records would be available for the period 1832 to 1845. Their later descendants were Methodists.
